Poetry comes from the Greek “ποίησις“, poiesis, making or creating.
Ouroboros is a poetry and art journal that showcases new, emerging, and established poets and artists who are passionate about art and craft. We are interested in vivid, modern poems that change our perceptions, in art that takes us beyond the apparent.
So where does Ouroboros fit in? The snake swallowing its tail symbolises infinity; to the alchemist, this represented the circular nature of his work, the union of opposites, the conscious and unconscious mind. And like the ouroboros, language is infinite, meaning endlessly deferred. We’ve adopted the symbol to acknowledge this. We also want to acknowledge that poets and artists are like the alchemist, striving to spin ideas and images into gold.
‘I turned silences and nights into words. What was unutterable, I wrote down. I made the whirling world stand still.’ Rimbaud, Alchemy of the Word
